A former newspaper reporter ("but I've reformed") and photojournalist, former custom color lab owner-operator, Jay Gross is a freelance writer and fine art photographer in Columbia, South Carolina. Born in Aiken, he attended the University of South Carolina in Aiken and Columbia, and has been a professional in commercial and fine art photography since 1970. His photography has been featured in art shows at Idylwild Arts Galleries, Cool Beans, Courtyard Coffeehouse, Café Strudel, and Moda in Columbia, and at Uptown Deli and Patriot Hall in Sumter.

Jay's fine art photography often invokes digital technologies to create new images from those that originated with traditional photographic processes. He frequently employs electronic means of abstracting, distorting, enhancing, or otherwise manipulating an image, in order to say something new about the subject or emphasize certain elements.

Jay has written extensively for Treo Central about products and processes related to Palm Treo smartphones and PalmOS, illustrating his articles with product shots and people pictures.
