Embroidery Computer generated image on watercolor paper 2001 In the early days of computer graphics technologies, fractal-based landscapes were as amazing as they were surreal. I made this one long, long ago using a very early version of Scene Generator software on my fabulous Amiga computer. The program's imaging capabilities improved immensely as the computers became better able to handle large amounts of data and vast quantities of math. Somehow, the flat shapes of this rudimentary example hung around in my collection of Amiga files. I moved it to my PC and applied this week's software technologies to it, making this abstracted image out of that old original landscape. Scene Generator's landscapes were mathematically calculated based on a mathematical seed. You could turn clouds on or off, and have (or not) realistic waves in the water. All the fancy stuff is turned off in this rudimentary image, and I've added textures to the resulting shapes using sophisticated Photoshop filters and layering. |
